Unless you have been living under a rock for the last two years or so, you have undoubtedly heard of the wildly popular video sharing website called YouTube. In a very short time, You Tube has become the rage of the internet and thousands of people every day are signing on every day to watch, share and upload video content. There are copycat websites springing up all over the place, but You Tube is still the King of video websites. You Tube itself is only about 2 years old, founded in February of 2005 by a couple of guys who used to work for PayPal. Less than 1 ½ years later, Google ponied up $1.65 BILLION dollars in stock to acquire the popular site.

Why would Google be so interested in a site with goofy videos of car crashes, people, stupid pet tricks and other assorted whimsical content? One word: eyeballs. Here’s the thing. Google knows that the internet is changing – big time. What has been coined as Web 2.0 is upon us. We are in the midst of an internet revolution where the internet begins to combine in big way with other electronic devices such as cell phones, ipods, home television sets and who knows what else. Web 2.0 is no longer about static websites but rather site that uses a variety of media to engage visitors – and to keep them coming back.
